Smart power supply with integrated monitoring and protection

Smart industrial power supply designed to deliver stable, monitored and protected power, with diagnostic and control functions built on an ARM processor-based electronic architecture.

This monitored power supply is an ARM-based power supply for industrial use, combining a 500 W, 48 V smart power supply with short-circuit and overvoltage protection, making it a short-circuit protected power supply for demanding installations. As an RS485 power supply that also offers RS232, it can be monitored remotely and, depending on the firmware, configured as a programmable power supply, bringing industrial power into the overall equipment diagnostics. It is an industrial power supply designed for control cabinets and rack systems.

The system integrates short-circuit and overvoltage protection, together with RS232 and RS485 communication interfaces, so the operation of the supply can be monitored and the unit easily integrated with other electronic equipment or control systems.

The firmware is based on FreeRTOS, providing a real-time architecture for managing protection, communications, status monitoring and diagnostic functions.

Short-circuit protection

The power supply includes dedicated mechanisms to protect both its own electronics and the connected load in the event of a short circuit at the output.

The system can detect abnormal operating conditions and act on the power stage to prevent damage caused by excessive currents.

Overvoltage protection

The electronics include protection against overvoltage conditions, preventing values outside the set limits from compromising the operation of the load or of the supply itself.

ARM architecture

The ARM processor is the control core of the power supply and manages communications, diagnostics, signalling and monitoring functions.

FreeRTOS operating system

The firmware uses FreeRTOS as its real-time operating system.

The various functions can be split into independent tasks handling electrical monitoring, communications, state management, diagnostics and protection control.

This architecture supports deterministic operation and a fast response to abnormal electrical conditions.

RS232 and RS485 communications

The power supply features RS232 and RS485 interfaces for communicating with external systems.

These interfaces allow the unit to be integrated with controllers, industrial computers, diagnostic systems or other electronics.

RS232 provides a direct interface for configuration and maintenance, while RS485 is especially well suited to robust communications in industrial installations and over longer distances.

Depending on the functions implemented in the firmware, the communications can be used to query status, transmit alarms, run diagnostics or modify operating parameters.

Front-panel status indication

The unit features front-panel indicators that show its operating status at a glance.

The front panel shown provides dedicated POWER OUT and FAULT indication, giving technical staff an immediate signal of output presence and possible fault conditions.

It also includes a power switch and test points accessible from the front panel, simplifying commissioning, checks and maintenance.

Diagnostics and maintenance

The combination of ARM processing, local indication and serial communications makes it possible to implement advanced diagnostic functions.

When an abnormal condition occurs, the system can act on the power stage, signal the fault and provide diagnostic information through the communication interfaces.

This makes faults easier to identify and reduces the time needed for maintenance operations.

Industrial construction

The electronics are built into a rugged rack-mount aluminium chassis that provides mechanical protection and simplifies installation in electrical cabinets, control systems and industrial infrastructure.

The format places the main operating, indication and test elements within direct reach on the front panel.

Applications

The power supply is intended for industrial systems, electronic equipment, automation, control cabinets, communication systems, instrumentation and applications requiring protected and monitored power.

Its communication capabilities also make it suitable for systems where the status of the power supply must form part of the overall equipment diagnostics.
